Environmentally friendly vehicles or green cars, are already popular for some time and they are among main attractions at car shows. You can say that they are the future of the automotive world. When people consider buying a green car, these two questions always pops; is it going to pay off and what are the advantages of a green car?
Symbiosis of fuel and electricity
If you decide to go green, you will enjoy the benefits of having two engines; conventional internal combustion engine and electric motor. In the city completely silent electric motor comes to the fore. You will drive between the traffic lights up to speed of 50 km/h without any fuel consumption and CO2 emission. At higher speed, petrol engine kicks in and takes over. So electric engine will be active where the usual fuel consumption is the highest (starting your car, and bringing it up to the fourth gear). This way “standard” petrol engine has easier job, and spends 40% to 60% less fuel in driving mode.
Charging the batteries
Bearing in mind the way of charging the batteries, there are two types of green cars. Conventional hybrid that comes with regenerative battery charging, which is charged with electricity due to braking and when petrol engine is running. Another option are the plug-in hybrids, which have the option of charging the batteries by an external connection to the electricity network. They comes with a much bigger battery assemblies, with greater autonomy.
Reliability
A lot of electronics, two engines and batteries; there are a lot of elements to break down.
Green cars are nowadays full of electronics, almost too futuristic car audio accessories, computers, cameras, etc., they are usually the top model in range. Electronics has always been considered as a car weakness, but today, green cars are using a computer software that is upgrading like your smartphone or computer software, by downloading the required patches and their installation. So forget the excavation of the car to reach a relay or a wire! Software that controls the operation of the hybrid system is brought to perfection over the years.
Two engines – one is standard with an internal combustion, which can be serviced by any authorized service; and the other is an electric motor with a single moving part (rotor), which is regarded as the most reliable mechanical assembly in the world.
Battery – usually comes with a warranty from 8 to 10 years, or for the entire lifetime of car ownership, so it is not intended to replace the batteries during this period.
Green cars are easy to use
You do not need a degree in mechanical engineering to drive a green car. Electronics does everything – when the electric motor is active, when petrol engine kicks in and when and how to charge the battery. Green cars usually come with an automatic gearbox which makes them easier to use than regular car that has manual gearbox.
Costs
In general, green cars are more expensive than conventional vehicles because of high-end technology and advanced hybrid battery assembly. However, simple mathematics through savings in fuel consumption and costs of the registration in the years of owning a car, shows us that most green cars out there will ultimately pay off.
Having in mind that our planet is not in the best shape, going green is the right thing to do. Majority of us in everyday driving doesn’t think about ecology, but by owning a green car you will contribute in saving our planet. And yes, going green pays off.
